I will be the featured artist for the month of September at the Kennedy Gallery, 1114 20th Street in the middle of midtown Sacramento, presenting the second edition of “Behind Closed Doors.” Special events will be the annual Rainbow Festival on Sunday, September 4th and the Second Saturday Art Walk, 6-9 PM on Saturday, September 10th.

I will be presenting new, large and dramatic images of doors from Russia, Italy, Greece and California’s Gold Country. Some of the images, five feet tall, are infused with dye on metal, some are gallery wrapped on canvas, and others specially laminated on satin paper.

Doors are unique to the personalities who live or work behind them. Each door has a story to tell–or hide. It’s been exciting to step out of my familiar role as a nature photographer and challenge a new genre–inanimate doors. I’ve found doors, especially old ones, can be as colorful and unique as the most exotic birds or flowers. Doors don’t move, so they are a bit easier to capture in the photographic sense. I like what they symbolize, the possibility of new adventure if we’re willing to open them!

The Kennedy Gallery, voted Sacramento’s best art gallery in a KCRA poll, is open Tuesday through Saturday, 11 AM-6 PM.
